“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” – Romans 3:31
And this settles it.
Jesus did settle it as well during His stint here on the earth.
“Till heaven and earth pass”, He said, “one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled”. (Matthew 5:18)
And if we did not catch that, then His great Apostle Paul here today puts in this reminder.
Faith in Christ, and by extension the new testament teachings. does not imply a nullification of the law.
For in the law and through the law, God revealed Himself to the greats of ancient times – His prophets.
His nature, likes and dislikes, were woven into and projected in the commandments handed down to Moses.
His benevolence and immeasurable compassion were revealed in His outpouring of mercy in several instances of breach of these.
While the coming of Christ created easier access to the Father, it by no means implied an erosion of the old order.
While the blood of Jesus at that one-time atonement replaced the blood of livestock, God’s statutes largely remained intact.
Of His Sabbath, for instance, He established to stand as a “perpetual covenant” to be observed through all generations. (Exodus 31:16)
Jesus gave the ultimate commandment of LOVE as the basis and requirement of the old order for simplicity’s sake.
And love, for God first in undiluted measure, and for the rest of our kind next.
Herein lies the bedrock of this faith we profess, even our Christian faith.
Jesus Christ remains the same, yesterday, today and forever.
God remains the Great I AM, our never-changing and self-sufficient God.
Remain Blessed.
