“He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.” – Isaiah 25:8
This, Jesus, has been doing.
This, Jesus, is still doing today.
And the same will He continue to do, till the very end.
But notice a condition – “…the rebuke of his people…“.
Who are these blessed ones that fall under this category of his people?
Who are these guaranteed to gain eternal victory over death, tears, insults and mockery?
The same are those regarded in scripture as “the elect” or “the predestined” (Mark 13:20; Romans 8:30).
By the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are all made eligible to join these special ones.
And how, you may wonder.
Through the exercise of our divinely given free will, limited only by our choice.
Up here, watching your back ain’t your lot to fuss about – Christ’s got it covered all the way.
In here, tears, sorrow and affliction are confined to a moment, or a night, and nothing more (Psalm 30:5).
Swallowed in victory, death’s sting is strung out and the grave’s false victory is forever vanquished.
This is a place and state to be very much desired.
