“2 “Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gate to the nations is broken, and its doors have swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will prosper,’ 3 therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the sea casting up its waves.” – Ezekiel 26:2-3 (NIV)
To prosper is mostly a welcome development, but at what cost?
At whose cost and expense must this be, if it must so be?
In a world with rapid degradation of human values, the cost of success is rarely scrutinized in most climes.
“I must succeed”; “I will prosper”; echo the confidence of the diligent optimist.
But so do the arrogant, desperate, and selfish as well in their boasts, thoughts, plans and actions.
The same was the case with Tyre of old, gleeing up at the downfall of another.
Even at the expense of Jerusalem, home to Mount Zion, the Lord’s famous abode on the earth.
And was her prophesied downfall and subsequent destruction not evident for all to see in the end?
Yet, o! how we learn nothing from history.
Otherwise the human race should have been better informed that one’s success need not ride on another’s downfall.
Even when the victim is an adversary, jubilation at the recompense of such one could prove costly with the Almighty.
Lest you become the next in line for His unpleasant visitation.
Bear in mind always, there is room enough for everyone up in the sky.
Celebrate with the successful.
Be remorseful, or at least emotional modest, at the tribulation of even your adversaries.
This, the Lord requires of you.
Stay blessed.
