“Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.” – 1 Samuel 2:3
Actions and intentions go hand in hand.
Not far from them both are speeches that in many cases precede actions but often hide motives.
And talking about words, the basic unit of utterances, are these not the hallmarks of the boastful and arrogant?
Trade your words, o! you arrogant, with your fellow earthlings, and this may be just fine.
Slur them for all you care and retain that false badge as the superior being.
But be admonished, “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, …”. (Proverbs 14:31 NIV)
In like fashion, whoever disparages another indirectly extends the same to his or her principal.
And this includes humans and the Creator, ultimately.
But here is where it all gets delicate and complicated.
When the boundary lines are breached beyond your kind by your speech and ascend to the Almighty, as is already the case above;
Then your cup begins to get full against the day of reckoning and wrath.
While you may get defensive about how your words were never directed at God, this God of knowledge without measure knows all.
And while your intentions may be disguised by your actions, is the Weigher of all actions now yet asleep?
Hear this, you boastful and arrogant, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:31)
It is time to appraise and change your ways, and who else should you turn to for help than Jesus?
Gain wisdom this day, rein in your thoughts and tongue, and come to the Saviour now.
Remain blessed.
