“And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.” – Matthew 28:17
What have we eyes for, if we cannot see before we believe?
What have we ears for, if they cannot serve to filter and affirm sounds before comprehension and commitment to action?
Should this not be the case with our other perceptual senses before our conclusions and decisions are made?
All of these, all things being equal, and in the grand scheme of events, do appear to be true, largely.
However, with God and in matters of religious faith, the converse must be the case.
More often than not, our senses have been found to constitute stumbling roadblocks to faith and enablers of unbelief.
Here, the birthplace of doubters and doubt is established.
How can that not seen, heard, smelt, tasted or even felt be said to exist?
Shall infirmity of the body truly be cured without medicine, or demons be dispelled from humans with sheer words, if at all possible?
Shall the dead indeed be made to live again, knowing fully well that it is appointed to every human once to die?
Well, there happened to be a certain Man who died multiple centuries ago and was resurrected some days after.
The same Man of Himself and His life did attest in the scriptures, “…I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. …….”. (John 10:17-18), and this He did exhibit.
By many infallible proofs, He did show Himself to His doubters in that age, with details well documented for the generations after. (Acts 1:3)
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the only Begotten Son of God, is this Man.
And of His disciples, we are told this day, that some doubted it was Him at the resurrection.
This is despite all He had told them before His crucifixion and in addition to all the mighty works He accomplished before their eyes.
Thomas may have become famous for doubting but He was only the face and the voice of the doubters.
However, he switched class to that of the believers upon the satisfaction of His curiosity, albeit sensually.
Fast forward to the present day and we must realize that there is no basis for playing Thomas with Christ all over again.
We must hinge our faith on the many infallible proofs He left behind to strengthen and establish us.
The time for doubt is long gone, and with that are the excuses.
Now is the time to make a shift and change class.
Hasten up! You can’t afford to be left behind.
Stay blessed.
